Islamic Point of View on "My Body, My Choice"

You might have heard the slogan 'My body, My choice' in issues like mandatory vaccination or the ban on abortion. According to Islamic point of view, humans do not own their body. The body is a magnificent gift from God and the real ownership merely belongs to Allah who created everything. In fact, when we say 'my body', we talk about a relationship between two things, me and my body. The fact is, if God did not created souls and bodies, we did not even exist to talk about our right in regard to our body. It is God who gave human beings the cognitive instrument to identify themselves. Therefore, our ownership regarding our body is not real ownership but it depends on the will of Allah. As a result, this ownership has to be limited to the boundaries laid down by the real owner, i.e. God. He is the only one who has the right to set rules for His creatures. Moreover, complexity of relations in the whole universe, including the relations that are not yet discovered, makes us unqualified creatures to make a choice in matters relevant to our salvation. Because of this, Allah sent his messengers to guide human beings on significant issues that play major roles in Human salvation.
