The Khordad 15 uprising in Iran (June 1963) was a protest against the arrest of Imam Khomeini by the Pahlavi regime when the people gathered and marched in various cities to support Imam Khomeini. Imam Khomeini's arrest was due to his speech in the Faiziya school against Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran. due to the killing of a group of people, Imam Khomeini, declared this day as public mourning forever. Therefore, June 15 is an official vacation in the calendar of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Imam Khomeini appeared at 6:30 in the afternoon on the day of Ashura 1383 AH (1963   June  3 ) to give a speech at the Faiziyah School in Qom, and in his speech, he openly criticized the Shah. On this day, the security and law enforcement forces of the Pahlavi government were on full alert.

Protest marches

On the morning of the 15th of Khordad, the people of Qom and some cities were informed about the arrest of Imam Khomeini and started protesting. In Tehran, students of Tehran University closed classes and joined people's demonstrations.Demonstrators whose numbers were increasing moment by moment.

The military officers stationed in the central and sensitive areas of Qom and Tehran shot at the demonstrators. Demonstrations continued that day and two days later, and a number of people were killed and injured. Shroud-wearing Varamini peasants who had gone to Tehran in support of Imam Khomeini faced the military officers at the Baqrabad bridge and a number of them were killed or injured. An investigation commission announced the death toll at 86 and the wounded at 193.
 

Thie reaction of ulama

Part of the reaction of the ulama took place in the form of sending telegraphs, issuing announcements, and sending letters. Many telegraphs were sent by scholars from different cities to Tehran, some of which were addressed to government assemblies and, while criticizing the government, demanded the release of the imam and other arrested persons (such as the critical telegraphs of Ayatollah Seyyed Mahmoud Hosseini Shahroudi and Ayatollah Seyed Mohammad Hadi Milani to king)
