The Doubt of Contradiction in the "embryological stages" of the Quran and new science! - 1

13:54 - 2024/03/07

In new embryology, it has not been observed that the embryo passes through the stage of “Alaqah” (blood clotting). Hasn't the new science violated the truth of the Quran's scientific propositions here?! What can be meant by the stage of "Alaqah" in the Qur'an?!

Short answer:

Three meanings can be imagined for "Alaqah"[1]:

  1.  something that sticks to everything due to moisture, which may refer to the process of sticking the blastocyst cell assembly to the uterine wall and creating a connection between them after implantation.
  2. Or it means blood clot and refers to the 21st day after sperm coagulation, when the heart and vessels are connected together and the cardiovascular system is formed over time.
  3.  Or it means “leech”, which is very similar between leech and fetus both in terms of appearance and feeding method.

Detailed answer:

In several verses of the Quran, the stages of fetal development are mentioned. For example, in verses 12-15 of Surah al-Mu'minun - which is more detailed than all the verses that speak in this matter.

we read:

“We created man from an extract of clay * then he was a seed in the safe lodging), safe [womb] * Then We made the sperm in the form of “Alaqa”[2] (clotted blood). Then We created the “Alaqa” in the form of a “Mazhgha”[3] (something like chewed meat). Then We clothed the bones with flesh. Then We produced him as [yet] another creature. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators”.[4]

Among the stages that the Qur'an has listed for the development of the fetus, there is a stage called Alqa (blood clot). In new embryology, all the stages of the birth and development of the fetus have been examined with accurate measurement tools. It has not been observed that humans pass through the stage of blood clotting. What can be meant by the stage of "Alaqah" in the Qur'an?! [5]
