Ashura and its lessons to the World

      Who is Obaidullah bin Ziyad?

      The end of forbidden seeds

Obaidullah was the commander of Kufa at the time of the Ashura incident when the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) and his companions was carried out on his orders.

Ibn Ziyad is also called "Ibn Marjaneh"! Because his mother's name was an adulterous slave named Marjaneh.

After Ashura, when the captives of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) were brought into Dar al-Marah in Kufa, Hazrat Zainab (peace be upon them) addressed Ibn Ziyad, calling him "Ibn Marjaneh", which was a reference to his impure lineage and adultery, and scandalized the proud ruler of Kufa. [1]

Ubaidullah was one of the famous Umayyad generals who was appointed to rule Khorasan by Muawiyah in 54 AH and was dismissed from there in 56 AH and appointed to rule Basra. After the death of Muawiyah and the rise of Yazid, and with the movement of Muslim bin Aqeel towards Kufa, he became the governor of Kufa while maintaining his position and brought the situation under control and martyred Muslim bin Aqeel. -peace be upon him- and his companions and the captives of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) he gave to Umar bin Saad who was the commander of the Kufa army in Karbala.[2]

Obaidullah is the son of Ziyad bin Abiyeh; There was a person who because of the many connections (sin of adultery) of men with his mother, no one could determine his parentage and mention his father's name![3]

Therefore, he was called Ziyad, the son of his father (Ziyad bin Abiyeh).

Mu'awiya tried to identify this missing connection and remove Ziyad from this shame.

Therefore, he called him Ziyad bin Abi Sufyan. However, he was not well-received by people familiar with Ziyad's family history, and he was still called Ziyad bin Abiyeh.[4]
