Imam Hussain's knowledge of Ladon and his Martyrdom

The knowledge of "Ladon" which is mentioned in the Qur'an[1], is the knowledge that God reveals to a servant without intercession. The source of all knowledge is from Allah; he reveals this knowledge to some of his servants.  According to authentic hadiths, Imam Hussain (A.S) had this knowledge as well. When he came to Karbala and heard the name of Karbala, he said: "This is where we will descend and shed our blood which my grandfather Prophet Mohammad (S.A) has informed me before. According to the hadiths of the Ahl al-Bayt, Imam Hussain (A.S) had already purchased four square miles of his gravesite.[2] Now the question is that despite knowing the martyrdom, why did Imam Hussain (A.S) arise and why did he go to Karbala to endanger his life as well as the lives of his family and companions? To know this answer, we pay attention to the following points:

  1. Imam Hussain arose for the revival of "Din" (Islam Religion) as well as for the duty of "enjoining good and forbidding evil", Revival of Islamic Values and destroying of Non-values; In Madina city replied to Marwan son of Hakam: " You should pray for Islam when the leadership of it, is caught in the hand of a leader such as Yazid". Yazid as the Caliph and Successor of the prophet, his act and actions were against all Islamic laws and values, openly abandoning Islamic obligations and was committing the greatest sins and prohibitions. Therefore, the principle of Islam was in danger, if Imam Hussain did not rise up, people would consider every act and action of Yazid as a religious act, and so Islam was going to be destroyed completely.
  2. Salvation of the God's servants from aberration and confusion, as it is mentioned in Arbaeen Prayer: " He sacrificed himself to your path to rescue your servants from aberration and confusion.
  3. His martyrdom was certain and inevitable: Imam Hussain's martyrdom was predestined before by God which was mentioned before by the Prophet Mohammad (S.A), Imam Ali and Imam Hassan (A.S).

Beside the above factors, we can mention the following factors as well:

  1. The Revival of Islamic State:

The people of Kufa wanted an Islamic government that should be established, and when the conditions for establishing an Islamic government are ready and prepared, it is obligatory for Imam to rise up for establishing it. On the other hand, it was an ultimatum for the people of Kufa, they invited him to come to Kufa to lead them establish the Islamic State, if Imam had not answered their call and not sent his ambassador (Moslim son of Aqil), they had excuse on the Day of Resurrection.

  1. Killing anyway: Yazid wrote his governor in Madina to pledge allegiance to him from Hussain (A.S), if he didn't accept, must be killed. So if the Imam had not risen up, he would have been killed again. In this case, his blood would not have the effect of ensuring the survival of Islam forever. In Karbala, when Imam came out of the tent of Umar Sa'ad, the commander of the enemy, said: "This mongrel  has made me between two affairs, that I should be killed or to pledge allegiance to Yazid, we never accept this humiliation.[3]

Regarding the above points, it can be concluded that having Ladonian knowledge does not conflict with the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, because the rise of Imam was meant to maintain values such as revival of religion, the practice of the duty of enjoining good and forbidding evil, and salvation of the servants from astonishment and misguidance, which have high value in the sight of Allah the Almighty. Other factors also confirm that the martyrdom of Imam was a certain fate, and that the Imam couldn't escape from it, on the other hand, they had made Imam between living in humiliation and being killed, which he chose martyrdom. Therefore, knowing about his martyrdom does not conflict with his martyrdom.
