The philosophy of legislation of Hajj

The philosophy of legislation of Hajj

God has made Hajj obligatory for those who can afford it

In it are manifest signs [and] Abraham’s Station, and whoever enters it shall be secure. And it is the duty of mankind toward Allah to make pilgrimage to the House—for those who can afford the journey to it—and should anyone renege [on his obligation], Allah is indeed without need of the creatures.[1]

About the philosophy of Hajj legislation, there are a few things worthy of attention:

A symbol of servitude

It is clear that the philosophy of human creation is worshiping and knowing God Almighty and reaching the desired perfection:

I did not create the jinn and the humans except that they may worship me.[2]

Therefore, God made Hajj obligatory because it is a perfect example of servitude and submission.

Forgiveness of sinners

Man is in danger at any moment and may be defeated by Satan's temptation at any time.

Therefore, God has given man suitable opportunities so that he can repent to Him and ask for forgiveness.

Therefore, between the nights and days, he placed Friday night and day, and between the months, the holy month of Ramadan, and between the years and the length of life, the journey to Hajj for his servants.

If they were deceived by the devil and were defeated by the desires of the soul, they should seek refuge in God and ask for forgiveness.

An example of Muslim community and unity

In the season of Hajj, Muslims from all walks of life, groups and nations are present. And they perform Hajj rituals in its time.

In Hajj, Muslims get to know each other, raise their concerns and needs, and examine the common interests of Muslims, and as a result, their unity and solidarity increases.

Almighty God says in the Holy Quran:

“And proclaim the Hajj to all the people: they will come to you on foot and on lean camels, coming from distant places, that they may witness the benefits for them, and mention Allah’s Name during the known days over the livestock He has provided them. So eat thereof and feed the destitute and the needy.”[3]
