Yazid attack on Kaaba and its instructive point
The Kaaba in Islam has a special sanctity that God emphasized in his Qur'an and said:
"إِنَّ أَوَّلَ بَيْتٍۢ وُضِعَ لِلنَّاسِ لَلَّذِى بِبَكَّةَ مُبَارَكًۭا وَهُدًۭى لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ. فِيهِ ءَايَـٰتٌۢ بَيِّنَـٰتٌۭ مَّقَامُ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ۖ وَمَن دَخَلَهُۥ كَانَ ءَامِنًۭا".[1]
“Surely the first House ˹of worship˺ established for humanity is the one at Bakkah-a blessed sanctuary and a guide for ˹all˺ people. In it are clear signs and the standing-place of Abraham. Whoever enters it should be safe”.
Yazid’s army attacked Mecca in 64 A.H. and they threw stones and flaming tar balls towards the Kaaba by catapults, as a result of which the curtain of the Kaaba caught fire and burned and parts of its wall were also destroyed.
According to Yaqoubi's report, Ibn Zubair prevented the extinguishing of the Kaaba fire in order to use it politically to make Muslims hate Yazid more and to increase his own followers.
There are some points related to the attack on house of Kaaba, according to which true Islam can be separated from false Islam and the line of followers of true Islam can be identified from the line of followers of false Islam and the claimants of Islam.
- Imam Hussain (a.s.) took refuge in the Kaaba after refusing to pledge his allegiance to Yazid, but when they tried to kill him there, he left the Hajj unfinished and left Mecca. Imam Hussain left Mecca so that the sanctity of God's house would not be broken by shedding blood there.
- With whatever intention Yazid and Yazidis attacked Mecca, with their attack on the Kaaba, it is clear that they broke the sanctity of God's safe house, which cannot be denied.
- By dragging the war into Makkah and preventing the extinguishing of the Kaaba fire, it is clear that Zubairis also disrespected the House of God and violated its sanctity, as well as misused Kaaba for the political aims. [2]
According to the above content, it is easy to distinguish the true Islam from the claimants of Islam. Imam Hussain left Mecca so that the sanctity of the Kaaba would not be broken by shedding blood there, because his path was the true path. Umayyads and Zubairis were on the fake path, because they misused Islam and broke down the sancturay of Kaaba. The Umayyads and Zubayris are still revered and sanctified by some of the claimants of Islam, and they consider them their religious and political leaders. The followers of Umayyads and Zurbyris are still misusing Islam for their political aims. Therefore, it is possible to identify the groups such as ISIS, Boko Haram and the like as the “Fake Islam”, not the real one, and not to consider them as the representatives of Islam.
