...The number of political Shias - those who supported their rule not because of their belief in the Imamate of Shia imams, but because of the superiority of the human, political character of the Ahl al-Bayt and because of their confrontation with the Umayyads - has been very large in Iraq. but they could not count on anyone to start a political movement with a minimum percentage of victory. The conversation of Barid Ajli with Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) that was mentioned earlier represents this fact.

On the other hand, since Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) was forced to observe taqiyyah,  many Shiites of Iraq expected that the Imam would come to Iraq and take up the sword due to the existing pressure and suffocation. Naturally some of them were against the Imamate of Imam Baqir (a.s.). They were in doubt, because there was not enough knowledge about the Imamate of Imam Baqir (a.s). They hesitated among him and his brother Zayd which led to the emergence of divisions in the Shia. Although the Imam died seven years before the uprising of his brother Zayd in Kufa. But during this period and after that, the roots of the tendency towards Zayd grew among a number of Shiites.

The type of encounter of Imam Baqir (a.s.) with the Umayyad caliphs:

Hisham bin Abdul Malik. These caliphs, with the exception of Umar bin Abdul Aziz, were no less than their ancestors in their cruelty, oppression and violence. They were always strict with the fifth Imam in particular.

The way Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) dealt with the Umayyad caliphs in his era is very honorable, so that his position as a protester and political opponent was always prominent in the society... [1]
