Oneness of Allah's Actions

12:53 - 2016/03/07

Believing in the unity of His action is very important in our daily life especially when we face difficulties.

The Unity of Actions in the Quran

Say," O Allah, Master of all sovereignty! You give sovereignty to whomever You wish, and strip of sovereignty whomever You wish; You make mighty whomever You wish, and You abase whomever You wish; all good is in Your hand. Indeed You have power over all thing[1]

We knew that Allah exists and He created us keen to know Him in order to worship Him because when one knows Allah he/she will find him deserved to be worshiped. We must know that oneness of Allah has some facets i.e. the oneness in His essence, oneness in His attributes and oneness in His Actions. In the chapter al-Ikhlas Allah asserts that there is one God and it means there are no god along with him.

Here in the mentioned verse of Quran Allah states that, in fact, all actions in the world are done by Allah. It means that there is no one along with Allah acting or doing something in the world and only His will takes place. In other word, no one is able to have any effect in the universe but Allah.

This kind of unity is completely conform the free will of human beings for Allah has bestowed free will upon humans, since as we are doing something by free will we are doing it under the will of Allah. To give an example and to illustrate the point, it is similar to a person who is learning deriving with an instructor. Learning person is able to speed up but instructor is also able to prevent him speeding up by putting his foot on the brake. Therefore the driver has free will and it does not contradict the instructor's free will.

Believing in the oneness of His actions is very important in our daily life especially when we face difficulties. This belief can affect our lifestyle by giving us the confidence to do Allah's commands enthusiastically. Finally, it is worthy to keep it in mind what Imam al-Kazim stated by saying; nothing happens unless the will of Allah belongs to it.[2]
