But Imam Ali (peace be upon him) himself, about whom the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him) said the hadith of Wilayat and also said: "No one will love Ali except a believer and no one will hate him except a hypocrite."[1] The reason for this is that all the Quraysh from the very beginning tried to cover his virtues, forget his memory, erase his characteristics and remove his high rank from the hearts of the people.[2]

Ibn Abi al-Hadid has given an interesting analysis of the causes of Quraish's hatred towards Imam Ali (peace be upon him). Once someone asked Imam Ali (peace be upon him): In your opinion, if the Messenger of God (peace be upon him) had a son who was mature and wise, will the Arab entrust his government to him? The Imam replied: “If he had done anything other than what I was doing, they would have killed him.[3]

The Arabs hated Muhammad (peace and blessings of God be upon him) had done and were jealous of what God had blessed him with... From the time of the Prophet, they tried to take the work from the hands of the Ahl al-Bayt after his death. If it wasn't for the fact that Quraysh made his name a means for their domination and saw it as a ladder for their advancement, they would not worship God even a day after the death of the Holy Prophet and would turn to apostasy...
