Rajab is the seventh month of the Islamic calendar and is considered one of the four sacred months in Islam in which battles are prohibited. Other sacred months are: Muharram, Dhul Qa'dah and Dhul-Hijjah. The noble Prophet was reported to have said: "Rajab is the Great month of God, Sha'ban is my month, and Ramadan is the month of my people", and that "fasting one day in Rajab is like fasting one month". Rajab is one of those months in which fasting, offering prayers and supplicating are highly recommended. It has been documented that apart from the month of Ramadan where fasting is compulsory on every believer, the noble Prophet of God (PBUHH) used to fast in the month of Rajab as well. Imam Jafar Sadiq (a.s) has reported the Prophet (PBUHH) as saying: “Rajab is the month of seeking forgiveness for my people; so, you should seek forgiveness much more than the usual during this month, for Almighty Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” In the light of this, it is highly recommended for a Muslim to take advantage of this sacred month to attain special spiritual benefits and to seek proximity to God.
