Amir al-Mu'minin Ali (a.s.) Settled down with only one Vote

12:24 - 2024/06/22

Throughout history, votes and opinions have been decisive and important, which, by choosing wrongly, have caused the society in a short or long period of time, hardships and calamities.

To Vote in Elections

The election of the third caliph was another calamity that befell Islam and Muslims. Because this choice made the Umayyads more efficient and the Amir al-Mu'minin Ali (peace be upon him) continued to stay at home.

Osman's Selection, with one vote:

The selection of the third caliph was by the six-person council that the second caliph had specified. After voting and a tie, the decisive role fell to Abdul Rahman bin Auf. He would vote for anyone, he would become the caliph of the Muslims.

Abd al-Rahman first told Amir al-Mu'minin Ali (peace be upon him) that on the condition of following the Qur'an, the Sunnah of the Prophet, and the traditions of the Sheikhs (Abu Bakr and Umar), I will vote for you and you will become the caliph. But Amir al-Mu'minin Ali (peace be upon him) only accepted the practice of the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Abd al-Rahman went to Uthman and he immediately accepted all three conditions. After that, Uthman dominated the affairs of the Muslims. As Amir al-Mu'minin Ali (peace be upon him) said: And his paternal line arose from Banu Umayyah and his companions, like hungry camels that fell for the life of a spring plant, ate and destroyed the property of the Muslims”.[1]

The problems, calamities and hardships during the Caliphate of Uthman had increased so much that the people rebelled against him and killed him. Amirul Momineen's efforts to save him were unsuccessful.[2]

Yes! Here, with only one vote, the society deviated from its main and fundamental path. Its helm fell into the hands of incompetents, which will continue until the reapearance of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him).

Undoubtedly, each and every vote of the people in the elections can be decisive. Therefore, they should choose the right person to run the country.[3]
