What is the role of youth in society according to the Qur'an?

Youth is considered the best and most sensitive period in the life of any being. especially human. It is in this period that man can determine his destiny and make his future horizon bright or dark. Human character is formed in youth and his future is determined accordingly. In any era, young people are more exposed to attention and play an effective role in the formation of various issues in societies.

About the role of youth in society from the perspective of the Qur'an; In general, it should be said: a believing person should play a positive role in society from the beginning of his understanding to the end of his life. and there is no need for the Quran to separate people based on age in influencing society. As Jesus (PBUH), from the beginning of his childhood, talking in the cradle. He proved both his prophethood and the chastity of his mother. and he maintained this influence until the end of his presence in society.

When Allah will say, O Jesus son of Mary! remember My blessing upon you and upon your mother. when I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit, so you would speak to the people in the cradle and in adulthood. and when I taught you the Book and wisdom, the Torah and the Evangel, and when you would create from clay the form of a bird, with My leave, and you would breathe into it and it would become a bird, with My leave; and you would heal the blind and the leper, with My leave, and you would raise the dead, with My leave; and when I held off [the evil of] the Children of Israel from you when you brought them manifest proofs, whereat the faithless among them said, ‘This is nothing but lain magic.'[1]

Nevertheless, the Holy Qur'an with a model plan of worthy young people; Like the youth of the companions of the cave, and some of the divine young prophets, and reminding some of the stories and moral and educational points, it depicts the role of worthy young people in the society.

The role of youth in society from the perspective of the Qur'an

1- The effect of piety of youth on society

The Holy Qur'an commands all people to have divine piety: "And fear God and know that God is with the pious".[2]A youth, as one of the strata of the society, is a person who practices piety. A young person who wants his work and effort to be accepted by God Almighty and enter eternal heaven, whether in the stage of worship, in the field of serving God's people, or in social good deeds, must practice piety.

The ever-increasing increase of sin and moral deviations in society and its negative effects on morals and mental health are to a large extent due to the fact that instincts, desire of the soul and evil temptations always lead people to rebellion, betrayal, selfishness and other types of corruption.

Naturally, if these sensual instincts and desires are left absolute and free and young people do not have any control over them, it will have very adverse consequences on the mental health of the individual and the society.

Therefore; In Quranic teachings, "Taqwa" is a central concept, and it is the best way for a person to reach God. Therefore, equipping the youth with piety and his presence in the community with this characteristic, has worthy spiritual and moral effects in the society.
