Imam Baqir and a Christian Man

Having good ethics in social interactions is one of the most prominent traits of the faithful people. Humility and Tolerance are two features that can draw strongly the affection of others. This text describes an ethical attitude of Imam Baqir (as) with a Christian man which led him to convert to islam.

The famous title of Imam Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Al-Hussein (as) is the “Baqir al-Oloum” which means “the scarifier of knowledges”. This title refers to his great ability to analyze the Islamic scientific issues.

One day a Christian man said to him “you are Baqar” instead of “Baqir” to ridicule him. Notice that the word “Baqar” in Arabic language means “Cow”.

Imam patiently said to him "no, I am not Baqar, I am Baqir!”

“You are the son of a woman who was a chef!” Christian man said.

Imam replied “It was her job, it is not a disgrace!”

Christian said “your mother was a black, Shameless and Sharp-tongued woman!”

Imam told him “If these claims are true, may God bless her and forgive her sins, but if are false, may God forgive you for these slanders.”

Seeing this transcendental meekness in a man who was able to make all kinds of harassment for someone who was out of the dominant religion, was enough to bringing a revolution in the soul of the Christian person.

He later converted to the Islam. [1]
