Mission (Biʿtha) of prophets (PBUH) and its goals

17:23 - 2016/05/07

Abstract
The name of the greatest prophet was Muhammad (PBUH). He was born in Mecca in the year 570 AD. As Muhammad (PBUH) grew up, he became known to be truthful, honest, trustworthy, generous, and sincere. He was so trustworthy that they called him the Trustworthy. Muhammad (PBUH) was very religious, and he had long detested the decadence and idolatry of his society. At the age of forty, Muhammad received his first revelation from Allah (C) through the Angel Gabriel. The revelations continued for twenty-three years, and they are collectively known as the Quran. Finally, he was died on Monday, the twenty-eighth month of Safar after eleven years of migration. There are some questions should be answered: What is the mission (Biʿtha) of prophets (PBUH)? And what are the goals of mission (Biʿtha).

What is the mission (Biʿtha)?
Mission or "Biʿtha" means "selection of prophet (PBUH) by Allah (C) for guidance of people." [1] The Holy Quran clearly mentions that “it is he who has sent amongst the unlettered a messenger from among themselves, to rehearse of them his signs, to refine them, and to instruct them in scripture and wisdom,- although they had been, before, in manifest error.”[2] Of course, these prophets (PBUT) were infallible and were under the care of Allah as Imam Ali (AS) said: Allah (C) companions the greatest angle to Muhammad (PBUH) when he was a child. The angel was with him at all times day and night and guided him to the way of generosity and ethical virtues.[3]
However, when the prophet (PBUH) had reached the age of 40, he usually went to cave of Hira and engrossed in praying to Allah (C). One day suddenly the Archangel Gabriel appeared with the first verses of the Holy Qur'an: “read in the name of your lord who created; He created man from a clot; read! Your lord is the most generous; who taught by the pen; taught the human what he did not know.”[4] With these verses, Gabriel (A) announced to Muhammad (PBUH) that Almighty Allah (C) had formally chosen him to be His last and final Messenger to humankind.[5]
What are the goals of mission (Biʿtha) of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)?
There are a lot of goals for mission of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). I just mention some of them:
Worship Allah (C) and avoid the tyrant
One of the goals is nearness to Allah (C) and rebel against the tyrant. As Allah (C) says in the Holy Qur'an: For we assuredly sent amongst every people a messenger, (with the command), "worship Allah, and eschew evil"[6]

Purification of soul

The second goal of the mission is purification of soul. As Allah (C) says in the Holy Qur'an: Certainly Allah conferred a benefit upon the believers when he raised among them a messenger from among themselves, reciting to them his communications and purifying them, and teaching them the book and the wisdom, although before that they were surely in manifest error [7]
Establish justice and equity
The third goal of the mission is that the prophet of Islam (PBUH) was sent by Allah (C) as a messenger to guide all the people of the world. As Allah (C) the almighty says in the Holy Qur'an: We have sent our messengers with proofs, and sent them with the book and the scales, so that people might establish the scale (of justice)[8]
Conclusion
Prophet of Islam (PBUH) was sent by Allah (C) the almighty as messenger to guide all of people in the world. Allah (C) has a lot of reasons and goals for the mission of prophet (PBUH) such as: worship of Allah (C) and avoidance the tyrant; purification of soul and establishment of justice and equity.
