Eid-Ghadir

The eighteenth of Dhul-Hijjah, year 10 A.H (i.e. Day of Ghadir Khumm) was the day when Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him and his household) was commanded by Allah to appoint Imam Ali son of Abu-Talib to be his vicegerent and successor immediately after him. The great lesson of Ghadir is to fight against discord. All followers of Islam should avoid insulting each other’s sanctities and stop bringing up provocative and sensitive issues.

It is going to explain that Imam Ali's Imamate and successor-ship is a divine position which is proven by the verses of the Holy Qur'an and prophetic sayings.

قال الصادق علیه السلام: یوم غدیر بین الفطر والاضحى  و یوم الجمعة کالقمر بین الکوکب ، الاقبال، ص:4

قال رسول الله صلی الله علیه و آله:علیً أَعْدَلُكُمْ‏ فِي الرَّعِيَّة،بحار الانوار، ج 65، ص:55

قال الصادق علیه السلام:إِنَّ یَوْمَ الْغَدِیرِ فِی السَّمَاءِ أَشْهَرُ مِنْهُ فِی الْأَرْضِ،تهذیب

قال رسول الله صلی الله علیه و آله:مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَهَذَا عَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ، بحار الانوار،

قال رسول الله صلی الله علیه و آله:وَلَایَهُ عَلِیِّ بْنِ أَبِی طَالِبٍ وَلَایَهُ اللَّهِ،الامالی،

الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ

The day of Ghadir is the greatest feast (Eid) in Islam; particularly for the followers of the Prophet's household. It was the day the religion of Islam was perfected and approved and the blessing of Allah upon the Muslim community was completed with the appointment of Imam Ali son of Abu-Talib (peace be upon him) as the immediate successor after the Holy Prophet of God (Peace be upon him and his pure household).

Every eighteenth of Dhul-Hijjah is marked and celebrated world-wide by the Shia-Muslims as the Ghadir Khum festival. The day is a remarkable day in the history of Islam as the Apostle of God (Peace be upon him and his pure household) was commanded on this day in the tenth year after Hijrah to stop at the pond of Khumm with the sole aim of nominating Ali son of Abu-Talib (peace be upon him) as his vicegerent and the immediate successor after him. With this divine appointment, the religion of Islam was perfected and approved of by Allah and His favours were completed.
