Referring to Shura[1], the Imam said in the sermon "Shakshaqiyya":

"When his [Umar's] life ended, he nominated a group and included me among them. God! what a council!  When was I doubted in my superiority and competence against the first of them, that today they equate me with these members of the Council?"[2]

It was fragile for the Imam to be next to people like Talha, Zubair and Uthman. Umar humiliated the Imam in this group. It is strange that Umar, when he chose six people, accused each of them of a quality. In the meantime, he attributed an attribute to the Imam that was extremely baseless and crushing. Umar accused Imam that (he is a joker). Later, Muawiya and Amr bin A’s, based on the same words of Umar, said about the Imam: The Imam strongly rejected the accusation of Amr bin A’s, and this was basically a rejection of Umar's words.

The Imam's life in the isolation of Medina caused him to remain unknown. Time passed quickly and Imam was a familiar face only in Madina, only among the old faces of the Companions. In Iraq and Syria, no one knew the Imam. Only some of the Yemeni tribes who had seen him since the Imam's trip to Yemen for several months were familiar with him. Jundab bin Abdullah says:

Once after swearing allegiance to Uthman, I went to Iraq, where I used to tell the people the virtues of Imam Ali (peace be upon him). The best answer I heard from people was: “put these words aside, think of something that will benefit you”. [3]
