noble of you

Question:
Does the Quran Promote and confirm sexism against women?

Answer:
According to verse 1 of Surah An-Nisa man and woman are created from one soul, so there is no difference between man and woman in creation itself.

“O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.”

But due to the man and woman are different from each other mentally and physically, it would be impossible to disregard differences in life and the laws governing human society. The differences exist whether we like it or not, such different reactions in the face of problems, in managing the affairs etc.
It’s exactly like two chairs which made from wood but one is specialized in sitting at the desk and the other is designed for serving food on the table and of course it does not cause the Superiority of one over the other. But they have just their special usages.

What Islam and Quran teach Muslims is equality of rights between men and women in contrast to West’s teachings which are insisting on resemblance (similarity) of rights. The man has special kind of rights and woman also enjoys other series of rights, but both of them have the same amount of rights and obligations. According to Islamic teachings the only thing that cause the Superiority, is just piety, nor gender, nor color, nor race, nor nationality and nothing else.

The verse 13 of Surah Al-Hujurat refers to this point:

“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.”
