On the day of Ghadir, the Holy Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H.) introduced Imam Ali (P.B.U.H.) to the people as his successor. On that day, the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H.) delivered a sermon called Ghadir sermon. In some parts of that sermon, he explained the characteristics of the friends of Ahl-ul-Bayt (P.B.U.them). The author is going to describe the characteristics of the friends of Ahl-ul-Bayt (P.B.U.them) according to Ghadir's sermon.
The characteristics of the friends of Ahl-ul-Bayt (P.B.U.them) in Ghadir sermon [1]
According to Ghadir sermon, what are the characteristics of the friends of Ahl-ul-Bayt (P.B.U.them) [2]?
The Holy Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) after praising Allah and expressing some parts of Ghadir sermon, said:
“O people! I am the straight path of Allah that He has ordered you to obey. Then, Ali (P.B.U.H.) after me and then, my sons from his descendant who are the Imams of guidance guide to the right and treat justly with the assistance of Allah.”. [3]
Then according to the verses of the Holy Qur’an, he said about the description of the friends and followers of Ahl-ul-Bayt (P.B.U.them) (the family of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H.)) as follows:
1- know that the friends of Ahl-ul-Bayt are those who Allah has mentioned in His book and said: “You will not find a people believing in Allah and the Last Day endearing those who oppose Allah and His Apostle even though they were their own parents, or children, or brothers, or kinsfolk. [For] such, He has written faith into their hearts …” [4]
2- know that their (Ahl-ul-Bayt (P.B.U.them)) friends are those who Allah has described and said: “Those who have faith and do not taint their faith with wrongdoing, for such there shall be safety, and they are [rightly] guided.” [5]
3- know that their friends are those who have faith and then have never doubted. [6]
4- know that their friends are those who enter the garden in peace and safety, and the angels will meet them with greeting saying: “Peace be to you! You are welcome! Enter it (the garden) to remain [forever].” [7]
5- know that their friends are those who have the garden, “provided therein without any reckoning.”. [8]
