What is the way to prove the prophethood of a prophet? What are the criteria for recognizing true prophets from false prophets?

Prophethood

A third way to distinguish divine prophets from false prophethood claimants:

"Miracles" and "examination of the content of the prophet's call" are the most important ways to recognize a divine prophet from among the claimants of prophethood. In addition to these two ways, there is another method for this recognition, which is as important and clear as the two mentioned above. That is to examine the signs that the previous prophets have expressed. Since all divine prophets have the status of infallibility and there is no possibility of error or lie about their testimony. Their testimony is the same as reality. Therefore, their testimony is a strong proof that the second person is also raised by God. As the case of the Prophet of Islam (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the prophets of the past promised him to appear.

The accumulation of signs of prophecy in a prophet:

It should be mentioned that when there are evidences of prophethood, especially miracles, in a person and he claims to be a prophet, it is definitely possible to find out his prophethood. Because God's wisdom requires that miracles belong only to prophets and not to other people. This issue is due to the fact that even if the false claimants of prophethood have the possibility of achieving divine miracles, God has made it possible for his servants to go astray by following that false prophet. Since the idea of such a situation is in contradiction with the principle of divine justice. It is impossible to happen. This is the same issue that is called by the Islamic scholars "refusal to indulge in ignorance" by God.

The sensitivity of the position of divine prophets as those who have divine miracles and their position plays a very decisive role in misleading or guiding people is so high that God the Almighty mentions this type of prophet in verses 44, 45 and 46 of Surah Haqa. It states that:

“Had he invented sayings against Us * We would have seized him by the right hand* then, We would surely have cut from him the aorta (vein)”.[1]

Pointing out that: If the Prophet of Islam (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had deviated from the truth and said something contrary to God, the divine government would not give him a moment's respite and destroy him quickly. Of course, there have been and are many false claimants of prophethood in the world. It is not necessary for God to destroy someone just because he claims to be false. This is only for those who have miracles. If they lie to God, He will not give them respite.[2]
