Right and privileges of girls and women in Islam

Introduction:

October 11th was declared by the United Nations as the “International Day of the Girl”. Their aim is to provide more opportunities for girls and to raise their awareness about the inequality that girls face globally due to their gender. These inequalities include the right to access education, nutrition, discrimination, violence, forced marriage, etc. On this occasion, we discuss the right and privileges given to girls and women by Islam.

Islam does not distinguish between men and women in terms of values and humanity, such as dignity, sanctity, etc. A series of differences are related to the nature and  the social role of women from men. Westerners are making a mistake today and are seeking to negate it under the pretext of women's rights. They want to create unity and similarity in the social roles of men and women. This problem has brought heavy consequences on the western women's society.  The female gender in the western society is considered only as a commodity that her perfection is imagined only in her beauty. However, the detailed mention of the above content requires another opportunity. n this article we briefly list the rights and privileges that Islam specifically grants to girls and women.

The right to choose her spouse:

Every girl has the right to choose her life partner and no one can force her to marry anyone. According to Islamic regulations, marriage must be done with the full consent of the parties, and if there is coercion, the contract is invalid. But because girls, especially during their teenage years, are more sentimental and emotional, they should choose their spouse with the advice and permission of their guardian.[1]

The right to demand alimony:

Alimony is housing, clothing, food and accessory items that are conventionally appropriate to the status of the woman, and a servant if she is used to having a servant or her need is due to illness or lack of an organ. This is a special privilege that Islamic jurisprudence has given exclusively to women.[2]

Dowry:

Dowry or sadaq or kabin, which is a manifestation of the husband's commitment to provide for the wife's life, is money that a man gives to his wife at the time of marriage. A woman becomes its owner due to marriage. The man is obliged to pay it to the woman. Once married, a woman becomes the owner of all the dowry.[3]

home appliances:

Food, clothing, housing and servants, all the needs of a woman based on the customs of the city where she lives, are considered part of alimony and providing them is one of the inalienable duties of a man.[4]
