A new look at Ghadir Khum

Ghadir Khum: In the beliefs of Shiites, the days that have special blessings are considered Eid.

The best Shiite Eid took place on the 18th day of Dhul-Hajeh and was named Eid Ghadir Kham so that mankind may not have any argument against Allah and they would be saved from going astray. Due to its great importance, the Ghadir Kham event has played a decisive role in determining the future path of all Muslims

Ghadir Khum in divine verses

On the day of Ghadir Khum, the Prophet of Love and Mercy (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) conveyed the most important message of his mission to the ears of the Muslims of the world, in order to carry out divine order." O, Apostle! Communicate that which has been sent down to you from your Lord, and if you do not, you will not have communicated His message, and Allah shall protect you from the people. Indeed Allah does not guide the faithless lot." [Maedeh/67]

2- The second verse that was revealed about Eid Al-Ghadir Khum and the dignity of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) is the third verse of Surah Ma'idah. " Today I have perfected your religion for you, and I have completed My blessing upon you, and I have approved Islam as your religion. But should anyone be compelled by hunger, without inclining to sin, then Allah is indeed all-forgiving, all-merciful." [Maedeh/3]

In the book of Al-Ghadir by Allamah Amini, 16 scholars of Sunni brothers stated that this verse was revealed on the day of Ghadir Khum after the appointment of Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him).[1]

Ghadir in hadiths

  1. The Prophet of Love and Mercy (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) says about Ghadir Khum Eid: "The day of Ghadir Khum is the highest Eid of my Ummah, and it is the day that God ordered me to appoint my brother Ali bin Abi Talib as the flag bearer and commander of my Ummah." So that the people after me will be guided by him, and that is the day on which God completed the religion and completed the blessing on my nation and approved Islam as a religion for them.[2]

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) says about the importance of this day: "The day of Ghadir Khum is the great Eid of God, God has not sent a prophet, except that He made this day an Eid and recognized its greatness, and the name of this day in the sky is the day of covenant and on earth, it is the day of the firm covenant and the public presence."[3]

  1. Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) considers the event of Ghadir to be the foundation of Islam and says: "Islam is founded on five things: prayer, zakat, fasting, Hajj, and all authority; And nothing like authority has been called on the day of Ghadir.[4]
